The Louvre in is arguably the most famous museum in the world, it is also home to perhaps the most famous painting in the world – Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

Located on the banks of the Seine River in Paris, it is also the second largest museum in the world (next to The Hermitage in St Petersburg, Russia) and also houses the Winged Victory, the Venus De Milo, and the Madonna of the Rocks.

You could spend literally weeks, if not months checking out everything the Louvre has to offer. Some people whiz through just checking out Mona and a few of the other super-famous sights along the way while others spend half a day or more taking in this most famous of Paris’ museums.

  2. I went to France last summer with my mother as a college graduation present …and we stayed at a hotel right down the street from the Louvre!....I have to say that the Louvre was one of my favorite places in France. It is just amazing. You could easily spend days there and not get sick of it….well, at least I could haha. I remember walking into one of the giant rooms there, and just becoming completely overwhelmed with all of the amazing artwork and being in the presence of some of the most famous painter, sculptors and artists that had ever lived; I almost started crying haha. I would highly recommend going to the Louvre if you are planning a trip to France, it is unbelievable!

  3. Even people who aren’t interested in art or museums tend to have the enormous Louvre Museum in Paris on their to-do list when they visit this city.

  7. If you’re TM doesnt tell you, make sure you ask for the alternate entrace into the Louvre, it saves TONS of time! You almost feel bad for all the people who wait hours in line! but dont worry, its totally legit!

  8. While all the tourists are crowding around the Mona Lisa, you can stay in the adjacent hall and find Leonardo’s “Virgin of the Rocks” ... which is a much more interesting painting (IMHO)

If there happens to be an attractive art fan looking at the same painting, walk up and say: “Leonardos use of chiaroscuro in this piece is quite sublime”. Then nod knowingly at whatever they reply back.
